3/7: Vorrius Ends Career With 7th Place Finish In Atlantic City
Senior Brandon Vorrius capped his high school career off on Sunday by pinning Verona's Colin Farawell in 3:19 to earn a 7th-place medal at this year's NJSIAA Wrestling Tournament at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Vorrius, who went 4-2 on the weekend, nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament on Friday night when he went down to the wire with 3-time state champion, Andrew Campolattano of Bound Brook, before being edged 5-4 in the pre-quarters.
Vorrius bounced back from the close loss, to win three out of his next four bouts to clinch a spot on the podium.
For the season, Vorrius finishes with a record of 41-4. The 41 wins are a new single season school record and his 112 career wins is also a new program high. In addition to his school records, Vorrius was also a 2-time Region 6 medalist, a 3-time District medalist including a champion in 2009, and he won titles at the Neptune Classic and Walter Woods Tournament.

2/27: Torchia & Vorrius Advance To Atlantic City
Senior Brandon Vorrius (189) and junior Zach Torchia (112) each finished 3rd in their respective weight classes at this year's Region 6 Tournament and will now move on to the 2010 NJSIAA Championships in Atlantic City. Both wrestlers will be in action on Friday night in the opening round at Boardwalk Hall.
Senior Alex Dulin came up short in his bid for a trip to AC, going 1-2 on the day to finish 5th/6th in the 119-pound bracket.

Senior Brandon Vorrius pinned Andrew Matter of Point Boro in 1:43 on Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2010 Region 6 Wrestling Tournament. Vorrius will be joined in Friday night's quarters by District champs Zach Torchia and Alez Dulin who received first round byes.

Zach Torchia and Alex Dulin won individual titles, and Brandon Vorrius placed 2nd, as Middletown North finished in 5th place as a team at Saturday's District 22 Tournament.
For Torchia, it was his 2nd consecutive District title as he cruised to the top spot at 112 with a tech fall and a pair of pins. Dulin's run to the 119-pound crown was highlighted by decision victories over 2nd-seeded PJ Parrino of Ocean in the semis and top-seeded Matt Mitchell of Raritan in the finals.
The two receive byes into Friday night's quarterfinal round of the Region 6 Tournament, while Vorrius who earned his 3rd District medal, will be on the mat on Tuesday night in the opening round against Andrew Matter of Pt. Boro.

Three District medal winners, including champions Brandon Vorrius and Zach Torchia, to a Lions team that finished tied for 2nd in A-North in 2009.
Vorrius, a Region medal winner last season, is the hammer up top in a group that will feature several new starters. One of the new starters, junior Rob Mercantante, finally breaks in to the lineup after being stuck on the depth chart behind Mike Fish, Frank Constantini, Tom Booth, and John Ruane the previous two seasons and has the potential to have a big year as the starter at 215.
Torchia and District runner-up Alex Dulin give North a solid 1-2 combo at 119 and 125, while seniors Justin Frick and Mike Ruane and junior Matt Morell give the Lions an experienced group returning in the lower half of the lineup.

Wrestler To Watch - (Sr) Brandon Vorrius
The four year starter had a huge 2009 season as he claimed his first District title and took 3rd at the Regions to punch his ticket to Atlantic City. He's a definite contender for a return to trip to Boardwalk Hall in 2010 and a spot on the podium.
DESPO's Outlook
The Lions took a bit of a hit to graduation, especially up top with Mike Fish, Tom Booth, and Frank Constantini departing. Still, there is some good talent returning and some of the newcomers to the lineup are capable of having big seasons. The Lions are always hanging around near the top of the their division and the District and there's no reason to think that will change this year.
